So, you want to buy a business, now what?
When considering buying businesses there are several of important things to consider.
1. Clarify your vision. By that I mean, when you are looking at a business, can you see yourself actually running that business?
2. Background and experience. Is your background and experience in a related industry similar to the business you think you want to buy?
3. Do you understand the marketing process about the product or service?
4. Do you understand the management style of the business?
5. Have you developed a marketing plan?
Experience in marketing and management with an understanding of finances are important when evaluating what type of business to consider buying. Once you have defined a business you think meets your needs, then listen to your “gut feel” when you first approach the business. If you can see yourself selling that product, managing the staff and employees, or making widgets, then you will be taking the first step to entrepreneurship and owning your own business and ready to move on to step two.
